A taste of the Maes

4 August 2014

Angharad Philips is having her first go working in an ice cream van. She’s from Ammanford, half an hour from Llanelli, and she has got this job because she’s a Welsh speaker.

“They needed somebody that speaks Welsh for these days at the National Eisteddfod, so that’s why I’m here!”, she says.

They sell all kinds of ice creams just next to Caffi Maes B. While we talk to her, all the kids that walk down the path stare at the van begging their parents for one. They are always a great public for this!

But Angharad’s colleague, Deane Cooke, says the business has been quiet so far. Originally from Cornwall, he has been doing other festivals with this Mario’s Ice Cream Van and he says the sells have not been that great here.

This is the first time working at the National Esiteddfod for both of them. Angharad is finding it especially exciting, and she says the food stalls are particularly good at the festival. Her only complaint is the car park, but she thinks the festival has been good so far.

If you fancy something sweet during your stay at the Eisteddfod, just stop by their ice cream van in front of the Ty Gwerin and meet this lovely girl from Ammanford!
